Virtual Fly-Thru w/ 3-D Modeling, C. Morris w/ Sketchfab
CARBIDE CAVE, "Signature Hall"
This cave is a scholar's dream! Contains dates from 1838 and untold history on ceilings and walls.
In 2019-2020, volunteers succeeded in not only providing the boots-on-the-ground for completing a large-scale survey and mapping of a small cave with large rewards. This landowner's permission granted volunteers permission to investigate this cave and record their findinds. The result, a first 3-D Model of this >500ft long cave hidden in the Tri-County hills.
Carefully photographing every inch of this subterranaen passage, Christopher Morris [assisted by Bob Ross, Sarah Arpin, Sean Vanderhoff, and myself (Jeff Hamilton)] recorded the entirety of "Signature Hall", collecting >10,000 images. Afterward, Morris used Sketchfab, a rendering software, to weave those images together. The result, a virtual 3-D model than, when opened in the Sketchfab app, allows viewers to interact with the cave by zooming in and out without a 3D space. Below is that Sketchfab model created by Christopher Morris, who participated in the on-site data collection for Carbide Cave, aka Signature Hall.
