HARDESTY Cave
Located on the Irvington Quad, Meade County, KY. 959ft according to the 1975 survey map below. According to the article, the cave was surveyed in two trips. After Ian Ellis "discovered" the cave in 1974, a 1975October survey trip was conducted by Ian Ellis and Dave Martin, assisted by Paul Volmer, whose family lived with Mrs. Hardesty.
The second trip by Ian Ellis, assisted by four Corps of Engineer Geologists who happened to by visiting Mammoth Cave area as consultants. Those four are named as Bill Baldwin, Jeanette Kasnia, Dave Sennett and Jan Timbrook. Paul Volmer assisted, and John Gilkey took B&W photographs. Meanwhile, Ian Ellis took Instamatic Color slides.
Hardesty's matriarch claimed to have read dates back to 1890 when visited the cave, and she shared with the survey team her memories of the stream no longer present at the rear of the cave.
