BIG SPRING - North Curduit
A Meade County Messenger article from 1981MAR05 said Tommie Vowels, Fort Knox Grotto President, and other cavers were "mapping the Lower Big Spring cave in Breckinridge County" and by next year (1982) "there will be a book published showing all of the explored and mapped caves in this part of the state. Tommie projected the Big Spring Cave system could exceed 30 miles. During the 2019 drought, I was able to make 6 kayak trips into the northern passage from the mouth of the Big Spring and photograph a little over one mile of the main conduit. I personally know the property owner whose 100 year old stone-circled well sits directly atop a large room atop one of the larger chambers.
Two questions:
1) Did survey teams from the 1970s 1981, 1985, or later EVER travel the passages I explored North of the Big Spring, as I did last year? and
2) Did the Fort Knox Grotto ever published their book?
