SPRING Cave
Below the level of Hidden Spring, a gully cuts through the land where two main slopes drain. This karst feature is unlike anything else on our 605-acres. I have been hand-digging the area in front a karst face since 2017. It's a slow, laborious process. But, I have discovered a shaft, to small for a human, on one side of the gully. In 2021, a large slab rolled down the slope, covering this feature. On the other end of the gully, and temperature is always in the mid 50's, hinting that a chamber of cave air is venting somewhere around that side of the gully. The deformation of the rock ledges hints at a collapse below ground.
Throughout the years, I have noticed that a bee colony lives in the rock face, above a mossy patch, near that constant cooling temperature. I have not disturbed them with my activity, and I will remain curious as to the size and age of said bee colony.
